After completing the acting course from the Film and Television Institute of India, Rajkummar shifted to Mumbai to focus on his acting career. For around a year, he made frequent visits to various production houses and also met casting directors. After some time, he made a small, uncredited appearance as a newsreader in the 2010 political thriller “Rann.” After that, in the same year, he featured in “Love Sex Aur Dhokha (LSD).” After the beginning of his career, he did various remarkable small roles. Though the parts he played were small as great actors, Rajkummar Rao left a deep impression on the audience. Some of the unique small functions were seen in the films such as ” Ragini MMS” (2011), “Shaitan” (2011), ” Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2” (2012), “Chittagong” (2012), and “Talaash” (2012).

  • In 2017, while hosting the opening ceremony of the 48th International Film Festival of India with a fractured leg, he joked about Smriti Irani’s name. He said, “What a co-incidence Majid Majidi (director of the IFFI’s opening film Beyond the Clouds) is an ‘Irani’ just like our union minister Smriti Irani.” When Smriti Irani took the stage, she said, “Rajkummar, the entire country should know this (referring to his joke) that you only poked fun at a minister, and it only shows as a government how tolerant we are.”
