Debashree Roy (দেবশ্রী রায়) is an Indian Film Actress, Dancer, Politician, and Animal Rights, Activist. she mainly works in Bengali Film Industry. She acted in more than 100 films in her career. Debashree is a member of the All India Trinamool Congress. She is the maternal aunt of Bollywood actress Rani Mukherjee.
Acting career
Debashree Roy is one of the Most Famous Bengali Film Actresses of the ’90s, she was made her debut in the Bengali movie Pagol Thakur in 1966. She became a starlet after she was acted in Tarun Majumdar’s Bengali thriller Kuheli 1971 as a child character. As a young actress, her first film was Arabinda Mukhopadhyay’s Bengali film Nadi Theke Sagare. In 1982, she appeared in Tarun Majumdar’s Bengali film Meghmukti. In the same year, she went on to appear in Goutam Mukherjee’s blockbuster Bengali film Troyee. She was paired with Mithun Chakraborty in the film. The success of the film brought her leading roles in the following Bengali films such as Aparupa, Samapti, and Agamikal.
Debashree Roy Awards
Debashree was earned with BFJA Award for Best Actress for the first time for her performance in Indar Sen’s Bengali film Thikana. She has received the National Film Award for Best Actress as well as BFJA Award for Best Actress for her role in Rituparno Ghosh’s National Award-winning Bengali film Unishe April. She collaborated with Rituparno Ghosh for the second time in his National Award-winning Bengali film Asukh which once again earned her the BFJA Award for Best Actress.
Politics
Debashree, currently a Member of the Legislative Assembly from All India Trinamool Congress, successfully contested the West Bengal assembly elections 2011 against CPI(M) candidate and former minister Kanti Ganguly, from the Raidighi.
Controversy
In 1983, Roy met Indian cricketer Sandeep Patil on the set of Kabhi Ajnabi. She got involved in an affair with the cricketer who was already married at that time. She was rumored to be the sole reason for the failure of Patil’s first marriage.
