“It was so great because you’re right. Usually, if there is a plus-size person in a film, it’s that one person and that’s it. In Dumplin’, there’s more than one plus-size person in the world. That’s super accurate to true life. It also really shows that there’s not one type of personality that fits one type of work. Like, there are two ways of being plus-size in a movie. It’s either the depressed [person] or the jolly best friend that has no issues or worries.”

“I don’t really know, and that’s kind of a problem, isn’t it? I guess Hairspray, and that was kind of the only time I really felt fully represented in TV or film growing up. So in my head, I couldn’t totally relate to her ’cause I didn’t have that life experience yet. But I saw Hairspray on Broadway when I was in 10th grade. It was eye-opening to me. It was amazing.”
